It's not all the Same
Is the
Internet really meant to be all the same? I understand the argument that a
person can feel that their privacy is invaded when companies target a person's
interests when they go online, but the internet is an evolving, expansive thing
that I think would start to "understand" what to look for when people
search about different topics, locations, etc. If the Internet was just a
static thing that was the same for everyone, I think it would be a bit boring
for people to go on and not feel that the Internet has more to offer. Another
large factor today is the amount of input people put on the internet in regards
to social networking. I don’t feel people will be so one-sided in their
thinking to not consider the various sides of political, economical, and social
issues. Now, if people are lead a certain way when searching on these various
engines for information on different topics, it doesn’t mean it’s impossible to
find what a person is looking for at all. And, even people who we might
considered like-minded individuals can feel the same way about an issue for
different reasons that can raise the question how much a person knows about the
thing they are supporting themselves. I feel there are no clear cut, straight
forward issues that a person has a complete grasp on since people have their
own unique take on things. The internet is an influential tool, but we can
choose what to accept from this large bank of knowledge and keep for ourselves.
Computers can be programmed to show things a certain way for people nowadays, but we still have the
reasoning and intelligence to find answers for ourselves.

I totally agree with Claude's idea of what Internet and it's usability means to us ourdays. It's not the options of Internet limit you to find something you need, it's you limiting yourself in a way of how to use the Internet correctly!
ReplyDeleteLet's say you receive emails from merchandising companies with their promotions and advertising, you have a choice to cancel those emails by simply notifying them that you don't want to receive emails from them anymore, unless it's spam- that's totally different thing! But a lot of people don't know about it, because they never read until the end of the email or just scroll over and you will see a note saying that you can cancel receiving the email at any time.
Also when you are trying to find something on google, the result depends on what you type, you can type the same words in different combination and you gonna get different search results. For a computer whatever you typing Is a code and it has to be written in a correct way, otherwise you gonna get the wrong results. So, just like Claude said, it wouldn't be as interesting to use Internet and social network, if you were getting only 1 straightforward answer. You would spend 5min using Internet, instead you are using it for hours because it has a lot of options and doesn't limit your possibilities.
It's true that using internet is actually depending on the different individuals. We should use our own judgement and intelligence to get the correct information that we actually want. Nowadays, more and more people are choosing to get information online, instead of reading books or newspapers, most of people would like to "Google" it! But there are just so many information! If the keywords are different, the searching results even for the same topic can be so different. Therefore, we should become more wisely to choose the right way to use the Internet. And the Internet can provide us a large number of possibilities, which is why the Internet is so useful. Because everything online is public, it's all depending on the user.
